Our firm was established and founded by Mr. Barry Coulthard in Lilydale, Victoria in 1981 which was previously known as Barry Coulthard and Associates Pty. Ltd.

Coulthard Shim Pty. Ltd. was incorporated in 2007 with the addition of Mr. Gregory Shim as a Principal and Director of the company.

The network of clients we have cultivated are broad and diverse ranging from architects, building designers, builders, property developers, home owners, owner builders, real estate agents, landscape architects, design and construct companies, local authorities and councils, infrastructure providers, fabricators and manufacturers.

Apart from being involved in the residential, commercial, industrial, institutional and manufacturing sectors, our niche is in the winery, horse racing and light pole manufacturing industries.

Our projects can be found all across areas of Melbourne and in many councils around Country Victoria and in several states across Australia. Coulthard Shim has also been part of design teams which have produced award winning projects.

The people behind our firm are comprised of a small group of highly dedicated and experienced engineers and draftspersons. Our company directors are extremely hands-on and are personally involved in the management and technical aspects of every project. We take pride in the work we do and strive to build and maintain long term relationships with our clients through our personalised and friendly service.

Both our company directors are registered building practitioners with the Victorian Building Commission and are members of the Associations of Consulting Structural Engineers Victoria (ACSEV), Engineers Australia (EA) and Footing and Foundations Society Victoria (FFSV). Our senior director and principal is one of the founding members of ACSEV and is also a registered practitioner with the Department of Justice Tasmania.
